Worth Lee Thompson, 82, of Norwood passed away Oct. 14, 2012 at Stanly Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Oct. 17 at South Stanly Baptist Church. Rev. Mike Rinehardt will officiate and entombment will follow in Stanly Gardens of Memory in Albemarle. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood.

Thompson was born March 30, 1930 in Stanly County to the late Grover and Ann Robert Ingold Thompson. He was a retiree of Stanly Knitting Mill and member of South Stanly Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Terry Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Howard Thompson of the home; son, Michael Thompson of Stanfield; daughter, Lynn Thompson Ross of Norwood; stepsons, Donald Hooks of Lilesville, Billy Hooks of Wadesboro, Steve Hooks of Wadesboro; stepdaughters, Joyce Deas of Concord, Sheila Lindenberger of Wingate; brothers, Roy Thompson and Larry Thompson of Norwood; sisters, Dot Byrd, Joyce Miller and Emma Hutchinson, all of Norwood; 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
