Anson County’s unemployment rate increased for the third straight month, according to numbers released by the North Carolina Department of Commerce - Labor and Economic Analysis Division on Friday.
Anson’s January rate of 12.8 percent was up 0.9 percent from the 11.9 percent rate in December 2012, and up 1.2 percent from the January 2012 rate of 11.6 percent.
All 100 of North Carolina’s counties experienced an increase in unemployment rates for January. Graham County had the highest unemployment rate at 20.4 percent while Orange County had the lowest at 6.6 percent. Anson’s neighboring counties’ rates saw dramatic increases as well. Richmond’s unemployment rate rose 1 percent from December to January, to 13.6, Stanly increased to 10.1 and Union, to 8.6.
Statewide, the number of people employed (not seasonally adjusted) decreased in January by 30,998 to 4,255,318, while those unemployed rose from 37,412 to 482,822. Since January 2012, the number of workers unemployed increased 14,640, while those employed increased 68,375.
The next unemployment figures will be available on Thursday, when the state unemployment rate for February is released.
