Immediately after the Wadesboro Christmas Parade on Dec. 6, children were able to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Anson County Partnership for Children. The waiting line stretched well outside the building down the block. Once the children were inside, Santa met with each child individually, asking what they wanted for Christmas..
Parents were able to take photos of their children with Santa for free, and submitted a form to the Partnership that listed three items the child would receive for Christmas. Soon, each child will receive a letter from Santa with the items mentioned.
Some of the most popular requests Santa heard were for trucks, dolls, footballs, bikes, Wii games and iPads. One girl requested a baby doll stroller and a “baby to kiss.” At least one other asked for a puppy, and one ambitious child requested a hippo.
Each child who visited with Santa and Mrs. Claus walked away with a gift: the choice of whichever free book they selected from the basket that Santa offered.
Children who are younger than 5 years of age are able to receive more free books than the one Santa gave. Parents are encouraged to contact the Partnership about signing up for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. From the time they are registered until they turn 5, children will receive one free book in the mail.
