Charles Harris.
Charles Hubert Harris, 77, of Norwood, passed away on Oct. 25, 2012, after a brief period of declining health.
The family received friends at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle, on Saturday.
The funeral service was held Sunday at First Presbyterian Church of Norwood with Rev. Julie Hill, Rev. Dale Bost, Rev. Elizabeth Ayscue officiating. Burial followed at Norwood Cemetery in Norwood.
Harris was born on May 19, 1935, in Stanly County, to the late Malvern Palmer Harris Sr. and Martha Isabell Morgan Harris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Malvern Palmer Harris Jr. and sister Michelle Harris Holt.
He is survived by his daughter, Martha Sue Hall and husband Dan Samples, of Albemarle; sons, Charles David Harris and wife Beth and Tracy Lee Harris both of Norwood; grandchildren, Morgan Hall Schultz and husband Peter, Murphy Williams Hall, David Edward Harris, James Andrew Harris; and two sisters, Margaret Harris Tyson of Norwood and Jane Boles of Pinnacle.
Harris attended Pfeiffer College as well as worked in construction traveling throughout the eastern United States installing church furnishings. He also volunteered at the Norwood Fire and Rescue for over 25 years.
He retired in 1989 from the Norwood Police Department as the Assistant Chief of Police. After retirement, he continued working on projects like the restoration of a 1952 Ford Van, which was Stanly County’s first rescue vehicle. He was a member of South Stanly Camp of the Gideon’s International.
He was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Polkton.
