Celebrate agriculture next weekend at Ag Expo and Fair

Entertainment, special events and activities are planned next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 24 and 25, at the 2010 Anson Ag Expo and Fair. A crowd is expected for the event, kicking off at 6 p.m. on Friday at the Lockhart-Taylor Center of South Piedmont Community College (SPCC).

Friday’s schedule includes:

5–6:30 p.m.— Goat Weigh-In

6–10 p.m.— Expo vendors in the Ingram Room of Lockhart-Taylor Center and Parking Area

6–10 p.m.— Educational Booth Displays in Ingram Room

7 p.m.–until— Market Goat followed by Breeder Doe Goat Show in Outdoor Tent

7–10 p.m.— SmokeBreak Band on the Main Stage in Parking Area

Food will be offered by Elijah Gillie Court #18, MCM Southern Refreshments and George Wilson. Menus include hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, homemade ice cream, boiled peanuts and drinks.

Other vendors on Friday include bake sale items by the State Employees’ Credit Union along with their “Fat Cat” mascot, demonstrations by the Anson County Sheriff’s Department, and exhibits from Martin Brothers Equipment Company. There may be more. Applications are still being received.

Saturday’s schedule includes:

8:30–9:45 a.m.— Heifer Check-In

8:30–10:30 a.m.— Lamb Weigh-In

9 a.m. to 2 p.m.— County Fair at Extension Center

9 a.m.— Educational Booth Competition Judging in Ingram Room, display all day

9 a.m. to 2 p.m.— Expo in Ingram Room and Parking Area of SPCC

9–11:30 a.m.— Youth Scavenger Hunt, registration at Cooperative Extension Booth

10 a.m. – until— Beef Heifer Show followed by Lamb Show

10–11 a.m.— Joy Smith, Anson Idol Runner-Up, on stage in Ingram Room

10:30–11 a.m.— Registration for Kiddie Tractor Pull at Cooperative Extension Booth

11 a.m. to noon— The Norris Family, Bluegrass, on stage in Ingram Room

11 a.m.— Kiddie Tractor Pull in Parking Area

Noon— Winners of Scavenger Hunt announced in Parking Area

Noon to 1 p.m.— The Dalrymples and Dance Time on stage in Ingram Room

1–2 p.m.— Sons of Saron, Contemporary Gospel, on stage in Ingram Room

2 p.m.— Fair winners pick up prizes at Extension Center

Vendors from Friday will be back, along with DeBev Accessories from Debra Adger, honey and honey products from the Anson County Beekeepers Association, and Smothers Family Lawn & Garden Center with perennials, shrubs, mums and vegetables.

They will be joined by the Hampton B. Allen Library Bookmobile, Anson County Farm Service Agency, Anson County Cooperative Extension and Huntley Chevrolet.

Come out and enjoy the fun while celebrating agriculture in Anson. This year promises something for everybody.
