A McFarlan woman was arrested in the case of an Aug. 1 armed robbery at Family Dollar in Wadesboro.

Joyce Gainey, 24, was arrested Aug. 6. She was charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery. Wadesboro Police Chief Janie Schutz said she was an employee at the store.

Schutz said the department has a warrant out for a male suspect and believe another man may be involved.

Officials responded to a call at 8:57 p.m. Aug. 1 to an armed robbery in progress. In under a minute, officers were on the scene but the suspects had fled. Officers found the tracks of a vehicle out back.

Clerks at the store described the suspects as two black males. One was wearing a red bandana around his face and the other a camouflaged mask. One of the clerks was struck in the face and the back of the head by the first suspect.

An undisclosed amount of money was taken.

"We get out there and work hard at trying to put together the best case possible and make arrests when the evidence presents itself to us," Wadesboro Police Chief Janie Schutz said Aug. 3. "I credit my patrol officers for their quick response and my detectives for their unrelenting digging in order to get to the truth."

A trial date was set for Sept. 21 in district court.
