Funeral services were held at noon July 14 at First Baptist Church in Kannapolis with the Pastor Annie Massey officiating. Interment followed the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Charlotte.
He was born May 11, 1972 in Peachland to John F. Polk and Ollie L. Polk. He confessed Christ at an early age and joined West Rocky Ford Baptist Church.
After moving to Charlotte, he joined Greater Saint James United Church of God. He was very involved with various community projects and with his job.
Polk was active with the Young People Holiness Association, the drug ministry, prison ministry, men's choir, mass choir and gospel choir. He was his pastor's personal secretary, the financial secretary of the church and a member of the pastor's aide and hospitality committee.
He attended East Polkton School and Anson Senior High School. After graduation in 1991, he attended East Carolina Schoool of Medicine, Job Corps and UNCC. He worked for Charlotte Radiology and managed several offices' scheduling. He worked as an instructor for Charlotte Radiology in Texas.
Polk was a devoted son, brother, uncle and brother-in-law.
He is survived by his father, John Polk Sr. of Peachland; mother, Ollie Polk Martin of Kannapolis; three brothers, John (Earlisa) Polk Jr. of Lilesville, Tony (April) of Wadesboro and James Polk of Greenville; six uncles, John (Shirley), Richard, Joe (Daisy), Robert (Carol), Alexander (Cora), and Charles (Betty); three aunts, Marie (Willie), Effie (Willard) and Virginia (Leon); six great-aunts, Fannie, Louise, Jannie, Frances (Claude), Louvenia and Maxine; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The services are in the care of Smith's Funeral Directors.
