Detectives from both agencies arrested:
1) Jermaine Ahmad Davis, 21, of Mount Gilead;
2) Christopher Lee Thornton, 22, also of Mount Gilead;
and 3) Anthony Marquez Allen, 17, of Winston-Salem.
All three are charged with the Waffle House armed robbery and the armed car jacking that followed.
On June 28, the Wadesboro Police Department responded to a robbery in progress call at the Waffle House Restaurant at approximately 4:30 a.m., according to a press release from Wadesboro Police Chief Janie Schutz. Three black males had entered the restaurant armed with weapons and robbed money and some personal belongings of the employees and patrons. A fourth black male was driving the get-away vehicle, which was last seen heading north on Highway 52. "From the investigation that took place, it is known that the four suspects went to Ansonville where they car-jacked a vehicle at gunpoint," Chief Schutz said. "From early on the investigation of these two incidents was tied together and all law enforcement combined their talents to quickly make three arrests.The same suspects were later involved in a car jacking in Ansonville."
The Wadesboro Police Department, the Anson County Sheriff’s Department and the SBI joined forces on the investigation of the two crimes, which led to Montgomery County. Evidence found and seized led to the first two suspects being arrested on the day after the robberies, June 29. Davis and Thornton were arrested first, placed under a $50,000 bond and charged with two counts each of robbery with a dangerous weapon.
On July 1, a third suspect was arrested in Winston-Salem. Allen was attempting to go through a license checkpoint in Winston-Salem when he jumped and ran from the vehicle he was driving. This vehicle was identified as the stolen vehicle from Ansonville. Winston-Salem police officers released their canine on Allen and he was then apprehended by the canine and his handler. Allen was turned over to the Anson County Sheriff’s Office and the Wadesboro Police Department, where warrants were also served on him. Wadesboro PD charged Allen with two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Court dates of July 27 have been given to the three charged. "The fourth suspect is still at large but is known to be from Winston-Salem," Schutz said. "Law enforcement hope to have him in custody soon."
All three suspects are in the Anson County Jail under bonds ranging to $150,000.
