The children first met at the department and were then taken to the Firemen's Training Center, where they fueled up on pizzas and drinks before their shopping sprees.
The program raised over $2,000 from local businesses, churches, individuals and other organizations.
The shopping spree was at Wal-Mart, where each child was accompanied by a police officer and a Wal-Mart associate. Every child had a gift card worth $290.25.
Interim chief Thedis Spencer said each child was selected because the family "had some type of crisis" over the past year.
He said the officers wanted to ensure "they're still able to enjoy Christmas."
Many of the officers were using their time off-duty to participate. They also donated money to the program.
Joseph Powell, 9, was one of the children.
He searched out DVDs, video games, shoes and a pair of khaki pants. As he put items in to his cart, Melanie Brown, a department manager at Wal-Mart, kept a tally of the cost, including sales tax.
Fortunately for him, his mother, Jodie Powell, said he would not be required to wait until Christmas to play with his toys.
