Frank Carpenter and SPCC board of trustees chairman Harvey Leavitt III share a laugh while Leavitt reads Carpenter’s farewell letter to the board.
Frank Carpenter, a member of the South Piedmont Community College (SPCC) board of trustees since the school was created in 1999, was honored at a reception before the board’s meeting on Tuesday, June 8, on the Old Charlotte Highway Campus in Monroe.

Carpenter was presented a plaque and other tokens of appreciation from the college and the board. Several board members lauded Carpenter for his commitment to the college, making note of his attention to detail and fundraising prowess. More than one person noted that no one can tell the story of South Piedmont Community College better than Carpenter.

Retired from State Utility Contractors, Carpenter will remain active for SPCC as a member of the SPCC Foundation board of directors.

A gubernatorial appointee, Carpenter will be replaced on the board of trustees by Bill Norwood.
