The Board of Elections received a complaint Tuesday about a lack of ballots for independent voters.

Kevin Conner of Polkton, who's registered as an Independent, said he was told he must choose between a Democratic or a Republican ballot. He claimed he was told no Independent ballots were available.

He left without voting and called the Record and later the Board of Elections to complain.

"That's forcing me to vote a ticket that I don't agree with," he said. "I think the Democrats and the Republicans are worried about us Independents because they don't know how we're going to vote."

"To me, that is discriminatory," he said.

"Yeah, I was standing right there with him when they told him so I didn't even bother," Kevin's brother, Willard Conner, said.

Kevin Conner claimed his wife Wendy faced the same problem at the polling place in Peachland.

"That's the first report I've received all day about unaffiliated voters," Board of Elections director Tasha Coleman said.

She said poll workers were instructed to give three sample ballots, one Democratic, one Republican and one Unaffiliated, to each voter and allow them to choose which to use.

"I'm actually going to send a board member out" to address the issue, she said.

I didn't get to vote for Sheriff either. I am registered Independent also. There should be one ticket with ALL candidates, not two separate ballots. Who can change this? Thanks janet d
