Stephone Anthony, a linebacker and junior at Anson High School (AHS), has been generating a lot of interest, even for a team as talented as the Bearcats.

Anthony was named this year to the Associated Press First Team All-State, a USA Today Junior All-American and for a third time All Southern Carolina Conference.

A four-sport athlete, including wrestling, track and baseball, Anthony also excels off the field, where he is in the top 10 percent of his class.

Coach Luke Hyatt said he has received over 25 written offers, and generated interest from noted football schools Louisiana State University and Auburn.

Hyatt said Anthony has size, at 6'3" and 220 lbs.

"Certain colleges like certain things," he said. However, all of them are interested in size, ability and academic aptitude.

He said the first thing scouts and coaches from colleges ask for is an athlete's transcript.

At the Bearcats' football banquet April 22, Anthony received the team's outstanding defensive player award.

"He can make a verbal decision [to a college] any time he wants," Hyatt said. However, NCAA rules prevent him from signing a letter of intent until February of his senior year.
