Anson fell April 20 at home to Weddington High School, 4-0. Weddington scored twice in the second inning, once in the third and a final time in the sixth.
Anson struggled offensively. "We didn't swing the bats at all hardly," head coach Mike Currie said.
The game was Senior Night. Jordan Hildreth, Jerry Johnson, J.R. Hayes, Hunter Powell, Josh Blalock and Garrett Treadaway are the team's seniors.
Anson lost again at Weddington April 23, 12-2. There were bright spots though.
Drew Cole batted 2-4. Powell went 3-3, including one home run.
Anson closed out the season with a victory at home over Scotland High School, 10-3.
A brief rain delay held up the game but it could not quench Anson's offensive heat.
In the top of the first, Scotland went three up and three down. Anson scored three times in the bottom of the first.
In the top of the second inning, a single and a walk were negated after Anson made a double play on a steal attempt. The Bearcats scored twice more in the bottom of the inning but left the bases loaded after two strikeouts.
Anson capitalized again in the bottom of the third inning with two more runs, one on an errant throw.
In the final two innings Scotland began to generate some offense but it was too little, too late. Hildreth took the win as pitcher.
Cole batted 2-3, Hildreth went 3-3 and Treadaway went 2-4.
"We hit the ball well today," Currie said. He said the team's defense and pitching were well-executed.
"We still need to finish games," he said.
The conference tournament will be May 3 through May 7. Anson went 4-9 this season.
