Edmon H. Morris, 88, died April 15, 2010 at Parkview Retirement Village.

A funeral service was held April 18 at 2 p.m. at Pocket Presbyterian Church in Sanford with the Rev. David Dudley officiating. Burial followed at Buffalo Cemetery in Sanford.

The family received friends April 18 from 6-8 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home in Sanford.

Born on Nov. 13, 1921 in Chesterfield County, S.C., he was the son of the late Columbus Bright Morris and Annie Laura Adams. He was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army and Merchant Marines during WWII.

He was a member of Pocket Presbyterian Church and retired from the city of Sanford in 1987 as a building Inspector. He loved to golf and was an avid builder. He was an over 50-year member of the Kilwinning Lodge #56 AF & AM, Wadesboro, and also a longtime member of the Sanford Lion’s Club.

He is survived by his wife, Jewell Chewning Morris of the home; two sons, Edmond R. Morris (Jeanne) of Tampa, Fla., and W.H. “Bill” Morris (Genia) of Linden; one stepson, William B. Chewning (Lynn) of Wadesboro; one stepdaughter, Pat Rorie of Monroe; two sisters; Judy Burch of Cheraw, S.C., and Lois Spears of Bennettsville; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Pocket Presbyterian Church or the Oxford Orphanage.
