Joe "Sonnie" Glenn Ross, 60, died March 30, 2010 at 5:25 a.m.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. April 3 at Smith's Memorial Chapel with Pastor Eddie Maye eulogizing and Apostle Annette Ross the mistress of ceremony. Interment followed the service at Westview Memorial Park. Visitation was at 2:30 p.m.

He was born Aug. 31, 1949 in Union County to Eliza Jane Ross and the late Cecil Jesse Ross Sr. He attended the public schools of Anson County until his senior year.

Ross transferred to Mecklenburg County and graduated from Second Ward High School in Charlotte in 1987. His family thanks Leon and Virginia for being there when he needed them.

He was the owner of and a driver for Ross Trucking for more than 40 years. He also worked for Chambers Express Trucking Company and Ross Trucking until he fell ill.

Ross was a faithful member of Pee Dee Missionary Baptist Church and served faithfully as a deacon and worked diligently with the deacon ministry.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Ross Sr.; and two brothers, Cecil Jesse Ross Jr. and Lonnie Ross.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Claybrooks Ross of the home; mother, Eliza Jane Leak of Charlotte; three sons, Bobby J. Ross, Sonny Ross and Timothy (Sandra R.) Ross, all of Charlotte; two daughters, Lisa M. Ross and Sandra (Alan) Ross Williams, both of Charlotte; two stepdaughters, Nicola (Wayne) Harris of Virginia Beach and Latise Moore of Monroe; 18 grandchildren; three sisters, Betty (Marvin) Chambers of Matthews, Jeanette (Elder Mitchell) Watkins of Norwood, Alverie (Randolph) Marsh of Charlotte; six brothers, Bishop James (Virginia) Ross, Donnie (Apostle Annette) Ross, Julius (Elder Judy) C. Ross and Eddie Ross, all of Charlotte, Frederick Ross and Alexander Ross, both of Polkton; four sisters-in-law, Daisy (Joe) Little of Fayetteville, Deborah Polk of Matthews, Minister Vanessa (Lewis) Clark of Monroe and Tina (Pastor Eddie) Maye of Wadesboro; three brothers-in-law, Jacob Polk of Peachland, Willie (Phachita) Polk of Monroe and Irvin (Sidney) Polk of Wadesboro; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The services are in the care of Smith's Funeral Directors.
