Mrs. Foye Lowe Ray, 75, died Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at home.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 28, at First United Methodist Church, Wadesboro with the Rev. Rob Rollins officiating. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery.

The family will greet friends on Saturday, March 27, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Foye was born August 21, 1934 in Anson County, a daughter of the late Joseph Valentine Lowe and the late Belle Foye Carpenter Lowe.

She was a 1952 graduate of Wadesboro High School and attended Virginia Intermont College. Her career life included working with Dr. D.W. Davis and Dr. Fred Burney, Anson County Department of Social Services and later as Anson County Register of Deeds, retiring in 1998.

Foye was a life-long member of First United Methodist Church, where she remained a faithful member and supportive of the church’s ministries.

She was featured in The Charlotte Observer by columnist Kays Gary as “The Sunshine Lady” for her outreach service to homebound residents in the counties served by the Sandhills Regional Public Library System.

Among her great loves were, first and foremost, family and friends. She was an avid bridge player, having played in the Winslow and Breakfast Bridge Clubs and often substituting in the “Old Men’s” bridge club. She loved gardening and was a member of The Wadesboro Garden Club, in which she held various offices including President and editor of the club’s annual yearbook. She was also a member of the Anson County Historical Society and the Anson County Democratic Party, in which she held the office of chairman. She was honored as the 1999 Anson County Democrat of the Year.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Will Ray and by a sister and brother, Jane Davis and Vallie Lowe Jr.

Surviving are her children, Kenn Bowers of Indian Trail, Marshall Ray of Lilesville and Anne (Michael) McLean of Pinehurst; her grandchildren, Daniel, Will and Maggie Bowers, Jill (Kyle) Edwards, Elizabeth and Emilea McLean, Janice (John) Tarlton and Dana (Joel) Hildreth; her great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Edwards, Karmen and Hunter Dawkins and Gage, Savannah and Gavin Tarlton; her brother, Spencer (Margaret) Lowe of Wadesboro and her adopted son and his family, Pryor, Barbara, Emma and Ry Gibson.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to her niece, Lowe Davis, and caregiver, Emogene Cash, for their love and support and to Amy Fournier and the staff of Anson Community Hospice for their devotion and care during the past few weeks and also to the communities of Anson County at large for the outpouring of love and concern for Foye.
