Wadesboro saw about 4 inches of snow Friday night. The snow had begun to melt and most roads were clear by mid-morning on Saturday, but a blanket of white remained on homes and in yards on East Wade Street.
For the second time in three weeks, Anson County was hit with a winter storm over the weekend.

While a storm during the last weekend of January dropped about an inch of ice and snow on the county, this most recent storm, which hit Friday evening at about rush hour, was purely a snow event and left 4-5 inches of the white stuff. Snowfall accumulations varied depending on location in the county, said Rodney Diggs, Anson County's director of emergency services. Most areas got about 4 inches, while Polkton measured the most snow, with 5 inches.

There were no power outages reported and no serious injuries or fatalities reported in connection with the storm. However, perhaps because of the time of day the snow started falling on Friday, there were 40 vehicle accidents between Friday night and Saturday in Anson County, Diggs said. "Most of them were Friday night," he added. "There were a couple that had injuries, but none serious."

The wrecks were spread out all over the county, with no one area having any more than another. Diggs stressed that when there is winter weather in the area, it's important not to get out on the roads unless absolutely necessary.

On Saturday morning, temperatures rose into the 40s, the sun was out and much of the snow had begun to melt by about 10 a.m. However, those that wanted the snow to hang around a big longer needn't give up hope, Diggs said.

"This is all a part of an El Nino event, which they're saying will go through March or April so we may very well have snow again."
