Jerry Jackson Northcutt died Feb. 8, 2010, at Lillie Bennett Nursing Center.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Leavitt Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry King officiating. Interment followed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in McFarlan. The family greeted friends at 1 p.m.
He was born in McFarlan to the late Grover Cleveland “Cleve” and Gladys Timmons Northcutt. He was educated in the local school system and attended Wingate College and UNC-Chapel Hill receiving his business degree from Ryder College in Trenton, N.J. After serving his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, he went to work for Texaco Oil Co. A few years later, he went to work for IBM and then for Scandinavian Airlines as a sales manager in their New York office.
He enjoyed traveling, cooking and entertaining and his job with the airlines allowed him the opportunity to do all of those things while traveling around the world. Jerry also enjoyed taking and teaching ballroom dance for Arthur Murray Studios.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Raymond Northcutt.
After retirement, he moved to Los Angeles and continued his penchant for entertaining family and friends. He was a good and thoroughly kind man that will be missed by all who knew him. As he would say, “This is the day which the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Survivors include: brothers, Frank Northcutt of Charlotte, Edward Northcutt of Tallahassee, Fla., Med Northcutt Sr. of Morven; sisters, Marie Burns of Wadesboro, Catherine Duckworth of Albemarle; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Britthaven of Albemarle and at Lillie Bennett Nursing Center, Wadesboro, for their love, care and kindness shown to Jerry.
