Anson loses to Sun Valley, 44-41

The Anson Bearcats suffered a tough loss to Sun Valley Jan. 8, 44-41.

While the game started off slow, Anson kept the lead early, finishing the first quarter ahead 10-6.

Sun Valley briefly pushed ahead in the second quarter until Anson went on a 13-0 run. The Spartans were scoreless for almost four minutes, finally scoring a bucket in the closing seconds of the first half. The Bearcats led 27-19.

The third quarter was a tough one for Anson as they were held to only five points. Sun Valley's defense kept Anson from penetrating to the paint and forced plenty of turnovers. Sun Valley led the game 34-32 at the end of the third quarter.

Anson battled back in the fourth quarter. A three-pointer from Diondre Pratt tied the score with five minutes left in the game. The momentum seemed to be swinging back in Anson's favor.

Both sides forced turnovers and the next two minutes were scoreless. Anson briefly took the lead with two and a half minutes remaining.

The two sides traded baskets and the score was tied 41-41 with 45 seconds on the clock.

Anson's defense left a hole in the lane open. Sun Valley drove and was fouled, converting one of the free throws. On the other end, the Bearcats could not sink their shots and the Spartans scored again. The final score was 44-41.
