“I believe the public knows they have an excellent Sheriff’s Office," Allen said in a statement. "We have the best quality and best trained officers ever and we try to provide them with the tools to do their job. We know how to use all resources at our disposal, such as working with local, state and federal agencies; and we use both the state and the federal courts. I would put my department up against any in the state. But it is something we must continue to build upon every day. I want to continue this quality of operation and lead this department into this next decade."
In addition to law enforcement, the sheriff runs the County Jail, oversees security in the courts and is now responsible for the 911 Emergency Communication Center.
"These are very complex operations today," Allen said. "Not only does the sheriff have to be up to speed on things himself, but he has to have the right people in the right places. The jail has operated at over capacity most of the past year and that alone creates a number of challenges. But we exceed the expectations of the state jail inspectors each time they visit."
The 911 center is also in the process of upgrading hardware and software in its dispatch center, the sheriff said. "We are also bringing Emergency Medical Dispatch online in the next few months. When appropriate, we will actually be able to give emergency medical advice to citizens when they call for services," he explained. "This will greatly improve life safety issues and emergency response by first responders and ambulances for all our citizens."
“I believe as your sheriff," Allen continued, "I have demonstrated an established history of professionalism, responsibility and accountability in providing quality law enforcement and emergency response to this county. I want to serve as your sheriff these next four years. I ask for your continued support and your vote.”
