Helen Davis Faulkner, 77, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at Anson Community Hospital.

Funeral services were 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3, at First Baptist Church, Wadesboro with Dr. Robert Hunter and her son-in-law, Dr. Van Lankford, officiating. Interment followed in Anson Memorial Park.

The family greeted friends Saturday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Helen was born Dec. 26, 1932, in Anson County, a daughter of the late Henry Spofford and Elsie McRae Davis. She was a graduate of Lilesville High School and attended Flora MacDonald College. After attending Flora MacDonald, she worked for a brief time with B.V. Hedrick.

After her children were of school age, she began a career with the Anson County Schools, retiring in 1999. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Wadesboro, where she sang in the Chancel Choir, was a member of the Special Interest Sunday School Class, serving as treasurer, a member of the Anticipators and was chairman of the Bereavement Meal Committee.

Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Bennett Faulkner of the home; her children, Shelton Faulkner and wife, Charity of Wadesboro, Jeff Faulkner and wife, Maria of Cheraw, S.C., and Ann Faulkner Lankford and husband, Van, of Mocksville; her grandchildren, Jason Faulkner and wife, Laura Beth, of Harmony, Lauren Faulkner Howell and husband, Eric of Wingate, Molly Lankford and Evan Lankford, both of Mocksville, and Brett Burnett and Eric Burnett, both of Cheraw, S.C.; and her brother and sister, Mack Davis and Irene Seago, both of Wadesboro.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a special sister-in-law, Ruth Faulkner Davis.
