"Our team came out with more of an 'edge' tonight," coach Matt Sides wrote in an e-mail.
While the game stayed fairly close early in the first quarter, a dunk by Terrance Polk with just over three minutes left in the first quarter sparked a run by Anson. The team outscored the Rowdy Rebel Bulls 13-2 going into the second quarter.
The team only expanded that 24-6 lead, keeping up the fast paced game that is Anson's strength.
"We want to play fast and attack while pressuring on defense," Sides said. Anson forced 31 turnovers.
Anson doubled its lead going into the half. The Bearcats were up 51-15 at half time.
While scoring slowed in the second half, Anson put renewed defensive pressure on South Stanly, allowing only six points in the fourth quarter.
Emmanuel Hough led the team with nine assists.
"One of the things we emphasize most is playing unselfish and as a team," Sides said. "I thought our guys did a great job of that tonight, as evidenced by our balanced scoring and 20 total assists.
The team shot 48 percent from the field, 32-66.
"This is not a bad percentage, but we are more pleased with the number of shots," he said. "During some of our previous games, we were only getting attempts in the high 40s and low 50s."
Sides was pleased with pace of the game.
"The more possessions, the better, because we are most effective when the game is going fast," he said. He added the team would ideally have over 70 shots per game.
