Fans from Anson County traveled to South Point High School on Friday night to support their team.
The Anson High School Bearcats football team's season came to an end Friday night after losing to South Point High School 35-21.

"We got down 28 to nothing and rallied back in the fourth quarter," Coach Luke Hyatt said.

"I think everyone on the sidelines knew we had a shot right up until the end," he wrote in an e-mail.

The team had five turnovers over the course of the game.

"It hurt," Hyatt said. "It's a sad way to end the season."

Brandon Ellerbe rushed 14 times for 64 yards while Jordan Hildreth rushed 11 times for 51 yards.

Hildreth completed 14 of 23 passes for 287 yards and two touchdowns.

However, it capped a great run for the seniors, who have experienced a total of 41 wins in their high school careers.

"They are the all-time winningest class in school history," Coach Hyatt said.

Hyatt looks forward to helping some of them get into college, whether or not that includes playing football.

While he looked back on a "very successful season," he said he "would have really liked to win one more."

Anson was 10-5 this season.

South Point (13-2) will play South Johnston (14-1) at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the 3AA Final.
