Like mother, like daughter.

The saying proves true with Melody Dupre and her daughter, Melanie Hartung. Dupre moved to a home on Lee Avenue in uptown Wadesboro in June 2008, and her daughter followed suit, moving into a house five doors down from her mother in May of this year. And now, the pair will both be participating in Sunday's Christmastime Tour of Homes in uptown Wadesboro.

Dupre says she was visiting her other daughter, who lives near Charlotte, in 2008, and decided to move to the area from Oregon. "She lives in the country, though, and I didn't want to live in the country," Dupre recalled. "I wanted to be able to walk to the post office and to the store to run errands and that sort of thing. I found Wadesboro and then I found the perfect house. I just love it here."

Hartung visited last Thanksgiving and also fell in love with the town. "I was looking to move for a while," she said. "We wanted to get out of the cold of Wisconsin. We found this house and it was just perfect."

Hartung lives in her new Lee Avenue home with her husband, Craig, and two children, Danny, 6, and Hailey, 7.

When it came time for Uptown Wadesboro Inc.'s Christmastime Tour of Homes, mother and daughter decided to both participate, although decorating for the holiday is not something either has particularly considered a family tradition.

"I just thought it would be something fun to do," Hartung said. "We used to live out in the country so we'd usually do a tree and that's about it."

This year, however, the family is putting a sign outside, decorating the sun room with a snowflake theme, lights and garland along the banister and mantle... nearly every room will be filled with Christmas spirit.

As for mom, Dupre says her home will probably be the most understated on the tour. "I moved here from a condominium so I used to just have a little tree and a few decorations on the front porch," she said. "Mine will probably be pretty simple," she added with a laugh.

This will be Dupre and Hartung's first Christmas together in several years, and they plan to enjoy it, starting this weekend.

"I'm calling it a party," Hartung said of the Tour of Homes. "I tell the kids we're getting ready for a Christmas party. It's going to be a lot of fun."

The Christmastime Tour of Homes is scheduled for 4-7 p.m. this Sunday, Dec. 6. Tickets are $10 per person prior to the event and can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce, Fancy Crafts and Lacy's. On the day of the event tickets must be purchased at the Arts Council between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. For more information, call 704-695-1644.

The Tour is presented by Uptown Wadesboro, Inc. and sponsored by BB&T Bank, RBC Centura Bank and Anson Bank & Trust.
