Bill L. Thompson, 86, formerly of Wadesboro, died Nov. 5, 2009, at The Levine Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 15 at Leavitt Funeral Home. Prior to the services, the family will greet friends at the funeral home at 1 p.m.
Thompson was born in Anson County Feb. 17, 1923, to the late Harmon and Mamie Hildreth Thompson. He owned and operated Thompson Supermarket in Wadesboro. Also, he worked for Washington Group, which owned and operated Stop-N-Go Convenience Stores and Amoco-Four Brothers Convenience Stores. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. He was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mamie T. Cranford.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Knotts Thompson, of the home; daughter, Kay Via and husband, Eddy, of Huntersville; two grandchildren; brother, Julian Thompson of Wadesboro; and nieces and nephews.
