The Reverend Doctor Tony Eugene Wood, 57, of Bolivia and formerly of Rockingham and Wadesboro, died Oct. 12, 2009, at his home.
There was a service of worship celebrating his life at 3 p.m. Oct. 16 at Gum Springs Baptist Church in Lilesville. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
The family greeted friends Oct. 15 from 6-8 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro.
There was a memorial service Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. at Sunset Harbor First Baptist Church in Bolivia.
He was born Feb. 3, 1952, in Richmond County to Eloise Parker Wood and the late Steele Vernon Wood. He received his bachelor’s degree from Wingate University in 1990, a Master of Ministry from Southern Baptist School for Biblical Studies, Jacksonville, Fla., in 1993 and then a Doctorate of Ministry also from Southern Baptist School of Biblical Studies in Jacksonville, Fla.
He was reared in Roberdel Baptist Church in Rockingham and his years of ministry included serving Marston Baptist Church, First Baptist Church, Midland, Beverly Hills Baptist Church, Rockingham, and currently serving Sunset Harbor First Baptist Church in Bolivia. Many lives have been touched through his service to the Lord.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son Trenton Lewis Wood and by his brother, Vernon Wood.
Surviving are his wife, Carol Hildreth Wood, of the home; his sons and daughters-in-law, Brandon and LeaHanna Wood of Valdosta, Ga. and Matthew and Melissa Wood of Rockingham; three grandchildren; his mother, Eloise Wood of Rockingham; and his sister-in-law, Patricia Wood Newton and husband, James of Rockingham; and his nieces and nephews and their families.
