Justin Martinez Glenn, 19, was charged with one felony count of possession of stolen property, two misdemeanor counts of resisting, obstructing or delaying law enforcement and one misdemeanor count of simple marijuana possession.
At approximately 2 a.m. Officer Scott Gulledge stopped a vehicle on Salisbury Street because there was no visible license plate. Glenn presented a Florida paper tag but the car had a dealership tag from Lumberton on the back.
This contradiction aroused the officer's suspicion. The driver had no identification, according to Schutz.
The officer found marijuana and Glenn later fled the scene and temporarily escaped.
The next morning, officials received a call from the ABC Store around 9:15 a.m. The caller reported a suspicious black male in the parking lot. Officers responding to the scene found a man matching the description of the suspect from earlier that morning at Anson Laser Wash across the street.
After requesting assistance from the Sheriff's Office, including a K-9 unit, Glenn was apprehended roughly two hours later behind a house that was for sale on Lee Avenue.
"i was extremely pleased," Chief Schutz said of the cooperation between her department and the Sheriff's Office.
Schutz said after further investigation, Glenn did have a valid driver's license but the vehicle was stolen from a Toyota dealership in Lumberton.
