Meetings

• The Anson County Citizen Advisory Board to the Anson Waste Management Facility meets the fourth Tuesday of every month, September through May. There is no meeting in December, June, July or August, unless there is a called meeting. This board meets at 6 p.m., in the administration building of the Anson Waste Management Facility on U.S. 74 West in Polkton.

• The Anson Women’s League meets the second Tuesday of each month, noon to 1 p.m. at Twin Valley Country Club. Attendees share lunch and host a guest speaker at each meeting. The cost of lunch is $8. • The Burnsville Recreation and Learning Center (BRLC) will have a Children and Youth night every Friday from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. There will be a $5 admission fee to attend. The event is for children and youth ages 4-17. There will be DJ music, physical activities, games, comedy and, weather permitting, a three-point shootout contest. The entry fee for the contest will be $1. The winner will receive half the proceeds from the contest. Refreshments will be sold. Door prizes to be given out every half hour. Adult chaperones on site. Proceeds go to help operate the center.

• Anson County Veteran Services are open Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m.

• The Anson County Farmer's Market will be open every Wednesday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is located on Highway 52.

• Aug. 3 through Aug. 31 Anson County Parks and Recreation will have sign-ups for Fall Football third through sixth grade, Flag Football second through fourth grade, Cheerleader third through sixth grade, Girl's Fast Pitch Softball 4 years to 18 years, Coach Pitch Baseball 7 years to 10 years, Tee Ball 4 years to 6 years, Micro Soccer 3 years to 5 years and Youth Soccer K-12. • "Bike Nite" begins at Sonic. 15 percent off for bikers. Also, every Tuesday night from 5 p.m. to close there is a "Family Nite" special at Sonic and Happy Hour.

• There will be a blood drive at 1:30-6 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Wadesboro. Donors should eat iron rich foods two weeks before donating blood. Drink plenty of water and avoid caffeine on the day of the drive. All donors will be entered into a region wide drawing for a gas card worth $1,000. All donors must present a photo ID or an American Red Cross blood donor card at registration.

• The movie "Bride Wars" will be shown at the Little Theater in the Hampton B. Allen Library at 10 a.m. This is free to the public. Concessions will not be provided. For more information, call 704-694-5177.

• There will be a HOLLA! motivational event at New Hope Christian Faith Church in Ansonville, as well as a co-ed softball game at the Ansonville baseball field. All youth groups, praise dance teams, motivational speakers and others are welcome.

July 25

• The Night Golf tournament, with nine holes in the day and nine at night, will take place at Twin Valley Country Club. Four people per team. July is Family Golf month.

• R.E.A.D. Incorporated holds parenting workshops the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 6 p.m. at the Elliot Professional Center for anyone. • The Burnsville Recreation and Learning Center holds evening hours: Mondays, 5:30-7:30 p.m., featuring a computer lab for children and adults, copy and fax service and a resource library available to the public for a small fee. • Every first Sunday of the month from 1-3 p.m., the Burnsville Recreation and Learning Center will have its "1st Sunday Dinner." Lots of good food and fellowship. There is no charge for the meal, but donations are gladly accepted.

Volunteers Needed

• Anson Community Hospice needs volunteers to give emotional, spiritual and personal support to patients and families. Office volunteers are also needed. Call 704-695-1595.

• The Grace Senior Center needs volunteers to deliver meals, Monday-Friday. Many elderly citizens, most of whom live alone, depend largely on this as their main meal of the day. Call 704-694-6616.

• AL-ANON meets every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the AA Building at 2177 Country Club Road in Wadesboro.
