Aljuwon Whittid and Xavier Sanchez, both 18, were stopped Saturday for speeding, officer M.L. Norris of the Wadesboro Police Department said.
The driver had an expired license and the men's stories had inconsistencies, so they were taken to the station. After waiting for a ride from Fayetteville, they left the station.
When officers contacted the Fayetteville Police Department, they discovered that the 2005 Chevrolet Suburban driven by the suspects had been reported stolen.
The pair was staying at the Anson Inn when officers picked them up. They discovered stolen credit cards and other means of identification, iPods and a gun with filed off serial numbers.
At the Sheriff's Office, Whittid attempted to flee from the room where fingerprints are taken. He was apprehended by a K-9 unit.
The subjects are linked to eight to 10 stolen vehicles in the Fayetteville area.
The pair faces a total of 19 felony and misdemeanor charges, including possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and resisting arrest. Officials with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office were expected to pick up the two men Wednesday.
The two men are each being held on a $100,000 bond.
