Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. July 2 at Smith's Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Robert Davis officiating. Visitation was at 3:30 p.m. Interment followed the service at Henry Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
She was born May 7, 1942, in Anson County to the late Crawford Andrew Tillman and Sally Mae Pratt Tillman. She attended the public schools of Anson. Byrd confessed Christ at an early age and joined Henry Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
She was wed on Nov. 3, 1956, to the late Cephus Junior Byrd, with whom she had 14 children.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three children; and two brothers, Norris Tillman and Robert (Shirley) Tillman.
She is survived by her children, Doris Byrd, Kerry Byrd, Terry Byrd, James Byrd, Barbara (Benjamin) Smith, Betty (James) Pickett, Rena (Melvin) Tyson, Shirley (Richard) Ratliff, Janet Hardison, Glenn (Serita) Byrd and Edward (Deborah) Byrd; stepdaughter, Alisha Blackman of High Point; 40 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rena Knotts and Beatrice Evans of Lilesville; four brothers, James (Trissie Tillman of Lilesville, Ross (Wanda) Tillman of Wadesboro, Crawford (Vicky) Tillman of Morven, Walter (Anita) Tillman of Rockingham; brother-in-law John Crawford of Morven; sister-in-law, Eva Diggs of Wadesboro; two aunts, Fannie M. Ingram of Lilesville and Evenlyn Brown of Wadesboro; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The services are in the care of Smith's Funeral Directors.
