A Wadesboro man was killed July 7 in a wreck on N.C. 109, North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper Landric Reid said.

Lawrence Lonnie Smith, 61, died. He was the driver and the only person in his 1990 Honda Accord. No other vehicles were involved.

A call was placed to 911 at approximately 4:55 a.m.

Smith was heading south when he went off the road, crossed back over the roadway and went into a ditch. The wreck occurred approximately 5.4 miles north of Wadesboro.

The vehicle overturned three and a half times, coming to rest on its top.

"The driver was ejected from the vehicle and thrown to the opposite side of the road on the southbound side," Reid said.

When rescue officials arrived, Smith was dead. He was not wearing a seat belt.

"I don't believe alcohol was going to be a factor at all," Reid said.

Shame how this article doesn't say how it took emergency responders almost 30 mins. to respond. Even though it was only 5 miles from town. Two 911 calls were even placed, each about 10 minutes apart!
