Cars don't belong on the sidewalks

(EDITOR'S NOTE: This letter was sent to Wadesboro Police Chief Janie Schutz and copied to The Anson Record.)

As I traveled down Highway 109 North/Greene Street and Leak Ferry Road/Airport Road last week, I noticed something very disheartening and disgraceful happening in our beloved town of Wadesboro. Multiple cars were parked on top of our own town's sidewalks. In fact, there were more cars parked on top of the sidewalks than those parked in the street and driveways. Highway 109 is known as one of the most scenic roadways in North Carolina and it is a shame and embarrassment to allow these cars to be parked in such a tacky, disorganized manner. It's these small nuisances that tarnish the reputation and beauty of our wonderful town and county.

I plead to you, stop these cars from parking on the sidewalks. Not just in this area, but all of Wadesboro. If we start enforcing the little things, surely others will take more pride in their hometown and begin efforts on their own. There's also a plus side to this. Ticketing equals revenue. Enforcing the town regulations of no parking on the sidewalks will also generate more money for government budgeting.

I hope you see this issue the same way I do, and will make the efforts to clean up Wadesboro one car at a time. Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing back from you.
