A reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in the shooting death of James Patrick Pickett, 31, on May 3.

Wadesboro Police Chief Janie Schutz said Monday the reward would be in the amount of $1,000.

"I still feel that there are people that have information but they are concerned with their welfare," she said Monday.

"We have got to be a pro-active policing community," she said. Schutz believes the cooperation of the community is essential for police to effectively do their job.

"Let's find the people who committed this murder," she said.

Pickett was found lying in the front yard of a residence on Salisbury Street in Wadesboro. He had been shot once in the face and once in the back.

Anyone with information on the case should call the Wadesboro Police Department at 704-694-2167 or come by the station on South Washington Street. The detective on the case is Det. Lewis McLendon, but citizens may also speak with Captain Thedis Spencer or Schutz herself.
