A Polkton woman has been charged with second-degree murder.

Barbara Murray, 30, has been charged in the death of Ray Charles Taylor, 36. The address of both is listed as 167 Rosa Lane in Polkton.

Law enforcement officials were called to the scene at 1:47 a.m. Thursday.

The victim suffered large stab wounds during an altercation, Captain Charles Little of the Anson County Sheriff's Office said.

"We got called to that residence because of an unresponsive person," Lt. Tim Watkins, of the Sheriff's Office, said.

Watkins said the victim was transported by emergency services and pronounced dead at Anson Community Hospital.

Officials were not sure who made the call.

While the pair's relationship is not completely clear, they were sharing the residence, Little said.

"I'm hearing husband and wife," he said, but added officials were not certain at this time. He said their relationship may have been common law.

Watkins said seven children also lived at the residence. He was unsure if any had witnessed the event.

Murray is being held at the Anson County Jail without bond. The Sheriff's Office is working with the State Bureau of Investigation on the case.
