Uptown Wadesboro discussed a potential farmer's market and the upcoming Summer Jam concert series at the organization's meeting Thursday, April 16.

Uptown Wadesboro president Carly Little said she had visited the farmer's market in Matthews April 12 to examine how the operation was run, speaking with the head farmer and the market manager.

She has made plans to meet with local farmers to get commitments and find out their thoughts.

"I would really like to focus on the small farmers, people growing it themselves," Little said.

While Little said she wasn't ready to set a date, she thinks the farmer's market could be running by the middle of May or early June. Currently, the market would be open each Thursday from 4-6 p.m. in the town square beside the former location of the Board of Elections.

Little said she was working with Jonathan Phillips, coordinator of marketing and communications at South Piedmont Community College, to find bands for the Summer Jam series and to design a logo.

[Full disclosure: Phillips is a former editor of the Anson Record.]

She said T-shirts with the logo might be sold at the concerts.

"We want something different for everyone," Phillips said Monday.

Each concert will last from 7-10 p.m. the first Friday of each month, from June to September, on East Wade Street, between the Historical Society and First Presbyterian Church in Wadesboro.

The concert series was held twice last summer. Those interested in performing should contact Little at 704-694-2213.
