Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. April 8 at First United Methodist Church, Wadesboro, with the Rev. Robert Rollins Jr. and the Rev. Bob Clanton officiating. The family greeted friends in the church fellowship hall Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
Interment followed in Anson Memorial Park.
She was born in Anson County on July 17, 1921 to the late Joel Fuller Hamilton and Lucy Brooks Hamilton. She graduated from Polkton High School Class of 1939, worked at West Knitting, Belk’s and McBride’s Radio and Television & Signs, Inc.
She was married to Ed McBride on Sept. 20, 1942 at Polkton Methodist Parsonage by the Rev. Joe Trollinger. Together they moved to Wadesboro in 1946 and Lucy became active in the First Methodist Church, Tex Ledbetter Sunday School Class and Wesleyan Service Guild of the Western North Carolina Conference becoming a lifetime member in 1962.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Martin, Thomas Linwood, Floyd and Boyce; and a sister, Sarah Margaret Powell.
She is survived by her loving, devoted husband of 66 years, Ed; son Thomas E. McBride, wife Wanda Parker McBride of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren and their mother Lori Anderson; and many special nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to thank the many friends and relatives who have been so faithful through the years and during her brief illness, as well as the dedicated doctors, staff and nurses at Anson Community Hospital.
