Two Wadesboro police officers were promoted during a ceremony on April 7.

Thedis Spencer was promoted from lieutenant to captain, while Detective Gordon Jackson was promoted to lieutenant.

Both officers have spent their entire careers with the Wadesboro Police Department.

Spencer, who recently served as interim chief until new Chief Janie Schutz was hired in March, has been with the force for 16 years. "It's an honor for me to be with the town as long as I have," he said. "The town's been really good to me."

"We've got one of the best police departments there is," he added.

Jackson has spent the past 22 years with the Wadesboro Police Department. He has lived in Wadesboro his entire life. "I've been fortunate enough in my career to be dedicated to protecting the town that I live in and that my family lives in," he said. "I love working with this department."

Chief Schutz said that as a new police chief, who's new to the town as well, having officers like Spencer and Jackson on the force is invaluable. "The level of experience these guys are showing and the guidance they are showing really helps me as a new chief," she said.
