Ray Thomas Gregory Sr., 80, died March 26, 2009 at Anson Community Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. March 28 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Bye and Russell Scarborough officiating. Interment followed at Anson Memorial Park.

The family greeted friends on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. until time for the services and other times at the home.

He was born in Anson County Dec. 21, 1928, a son of the late Nannie Hargett and Charles Julian Gregory.

He was a graduate of Rockingham High School, and a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served during the Korean War. A life-long Episcopalian, he was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry and as an usher.

Gregory was a former member of the Wadesboro Lions Club, the Woodmen of the World and a Mason. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service with 30 years of service and loved to play golf and spend time with his family and friends.

His son, Mark Edward Gregory, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Lena Hough Gregory of the home; his children, Ray T. Gregory, Jr. and wife, Jackie, of Albemarle, Susan Gregory Short and husband, David, of Asheboro, Cynthia Gregory Missbach and husband, Michael, of Tobaccoville and David Ross Gregory and wife, Suzanne, of Monroe; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
