Principal Marilynn Bennett (left), the Las Amigas committee chairperson for this activity, stated, “We had many good entries this year, which made the selection process difficult. We are proud of all the students who participated.” Sixth-grade students in Ernestine Gaddy’s (pictured right) homeroom at Morven Elementary School claimed all of the winning prizes in this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Poetry/Essay contest, sponsored yearly by the Morven Chapter of Las Amigas, Inc. All students wrote poems on the topic “Yes I Can, Make a Dream Come True!” Torrance Monroe (second from left), won the first place cash prize of $25. Second place winner, Lareka Price (center), won $15; and third place winner, Marquavia Lowery won $10.
