LILESVILLE — Mary Virginia Bowman Dean, 90, died Nov. 15, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Lilesville United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Lilesville Cemetery. The family will greet friends Saturday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro and other times at the home.
Dean was born March 24, 1922 in Anson County, a daughter of the late Thomas Robinson Bowman and the late Mary Sue King Bowman. She was retired from Anson County Schools having worked as a teacher’s assistant at Lilesville Elementary for 18 years. She has served on the Lilesville Town Council and as Mayor Pro Tem. She was a lifelong member of Lilesville United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her children, Gilbert C. (Frances) Dean Jr. of N. Charleston, S.C., James Dean, Carolyn (Nelson) Ingram and Ken Dean all of Lilesville, Betty Jean (Don) Bowers of Norwood and Charles ( special friend, Rita) Dean of Charleston, S.C.; her grandchildren, Trey Dean, Shannon Mizell, James Dean, Jr., Stan Dean, Mike Ingram, Chad Bowers, Ryan Bowers, Meredith Howell, Erica Dean and Jessica Dean; 10 great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Frances Bowman of Lilesville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert C. Dean; a grandson, Scottie Dean; an infant grandson and by her only brother, King Bowman.
