William Battle Wall Jr., 89, died Nov. 8, 2012 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Graveside services with Masonic Rites will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Forestville United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.

Wall was born Oct. 26, 1923 to the late Bettie Viola Webb of Pavo, Ga., and the late William Battle Wall Sr. in Pee Dee. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Agnes Mae Hildreth Wall of Wadesboro, one brother, Robert, and two sisters, Lucy Martin Fetridge and Marjorie Jean Liles.

He is survived by his loving wife, Bettye Braswell Wall and two sons, William Battle Wall III (Kaye) of Charlotte, and Arthur Clyde Wall of Wadesboro; five stepchildren, David Braswell and Dr. Laura Braswell both of Atlanta, Ga., Robert Braswell (Victoria) of Hickory, Anne Heldreth (Steve) of Charlottesville, Va., and John Braswell of Hendersonville; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bettie Elaine Davidson (Clyde) of Rockingham.

Battle served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, and participated in the European/African/Middle Eastern/Asiatic and Pacific Campaigns. Following his return from the war, he reengaged with the family farm and began a career in lumber and timber. After retiring, he and his wife, Bettye lived in Hendersonville and Longboat Key, Fla., before locating to Pinehurst in 2005.
