The Wadesboro Police Department arrested Anson High School cafeteria worker Deanna Hatley on Monday after receiving a tip that a vehicle at the school contained ingredients for making a controlled substance.
According to information from Wadesboro’s interim police chief, Thedis Spencer, the police department investigated the incident at 3:30 p.m. Monday. Upon investigation, officers discovered substances “that are consistent with manufacturing controlled substances.”
Hatley, 42, of Wadesboro was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine precursor, possession of a precursor chemical with the intent to manufacture a controlled substance on school grounds, manufacture schedule II controlled substance, maintaining a vehicle for keeping a controlled substance and simple possession of schedule IV, Xanax.
The State Bureau of Investigation and the Anson County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation. Hatley is being held under a $20,000 bond. Her court date is set for Nov. 26.
In a statement, Anson County Schools Superintendent Dr. Greg Firn said, “I want to make it clear this incident had nothing to do with the students.”
