Read Across America is a countywide event during which all elementary schools have distinguished guests come and read to the children in primary grades. In honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, Ansonville Elementary School was visited by some very special people.

On March 3, we were graced to have Sheri Strickland, the president of North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE). She was escorted by our local president, Dannie Montgomery, who is also a teacher at Anson Challenge Academy. With enthusiasm, they captured and held the attention of the students in grades pre-K to first grade. Ansonville’s students participated in this annual event by listening eagerly and answering questions. We were excited to have Strickland and Montgomery to visit and read those colorful, fun-filled Dr. Seuss books to our children in the primary classes.

Also, their visit on Tuesday made an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew and were taught by the late, great M.R. Bell. In this special moment, Strickland and Montgomery presented Principal Randy High with a Dr. Seuss book, Oh, The Places We Will Go, for Ansonville’s library in her memory and honor. We will never forget our beloved and beautiful Mrs. Bell, who was a beacon of light to all, an awesome educator and a pillar of strength in the Anson County community and school system.

Ansonville Elementary School would like to thank Strickland and Montgomery for making the trip to our school and for being a part of this special day. We look forward to next year as we come together again to experience and to celebrate the gift of Read Across America.
