The Anson County Democratic Party held a county-wide voter registration drive Sept. 22 at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, beginning at 8:30 a.m. with Dannie Montgomery, Vancine Sturdivant and Max from Organizing America as coaches. Thirty fired up, ready to go Democrats, including the Teen Dems, were present for the training.

A special appearance was made by Senate-hopeful Gene McLaurin.

At 10 a.m., the participants were grouped in twos and went into each precinct of Anson County encouraging the citizens to register and vote. The Teen Dems, under the leadership of Priscilla Little, conducted their own canvass. Over 400 new or change-of-information forms were filled out.

Sturdivant stated, “This was a bittersweet moment. It is great that we have so many citizens that are eager to support our president, Barack Obama, but it is truly sad that we have so many citizens not registered. If you know anyone that needs to be registered, please call 704-848-4412.”
