The event was held to honor Anson County 4-H’ers and 4-H volunteers for their accomplishments over the last year in 4-H. Youth and adults were recognized and awarded ribbons, certificates and medals.
Deserving young 4-H'ers earned scholarships for club project work. These scholarships, provided through Anson United Way, will be used toward 4-H trips and camps.
This year's Cloverbud project winners were Justin Duncan, Na’La Brown and Katherine Brown.
Junior Division (11-12) project winners were Aaliyah Escalera and Capricuina Neal.
Senior Division (13-15) project winners were Jessica Johnson, Demetress Bennett and Whitney Dunlap.
This year's Sr. Outstanding 4-H'er was 15-year-old Yasmine Escalera. Yasmine has been a 4-H'er for six and a half years. She has been very active in 4-H the past year by participating in various county, district and state level programs, serving as vice president for county council and representing the county at the North Carolina Citizenship Focus in Raleigh. Yasmine is a member of the Busy Bees 4-H Club.
4-H Volunteer Leaders were recognized with years of devoted service to the 4-H program. They were: Yolanda Wilson, two years; Debra Ratliff and Deborah Garris, three years; Addie Richardson, four years; Hannah Dunlap, eight years; Sharon Edwards, 12 years; Ada Moore, 21 years; and Betty Garris, 25 years. Each leader was given a certificate, year of service pin and a token of appreciation.
Certificates of appreciation were given to volunteers that gave their time during the past year to 4-H in the capacities of teaching a program, judging or helping structure programs. Those individuals were, Janine Rywak, Janet Watson and Alan Molaro.
The evening was capped off with the recognition of the 2009 County 4-H Council and Leader’s Association Officers. They were : president— Yasmine Escalera, vice president—Whitney Dunlap , secretary— Aaliyah Escalera and reporter— Jessica Johnson. 4-H Leaders Association officers are : Pearl Blount— president, Addie Richardson— vice president, Debra Garris— secretary, Betty Garris— parliamentarian and Kim Bennett— treasurer.
