LILESVILLE

Caroline Elizabeth Spencer died Jan. 21, 2009 at Carolinas Medical Center- Mercy in Charlotte.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 29, 2009 at Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor John McLaurin officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

She was born Dec. 3, 1921 in Lilesville to the late Jim Billy and Queen Esther Wall, who preceded her in death many years ago.

Her loving husband, Lonzer Put Spencer, also preceded her in death four years ago. She was a faithful member of Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church until her health failed.

She always kept her faith and trust in God. She was also a member of the Linkon O.E.S.

Caroline, Grandma Bess or Aunt Bess, as she was called, held a special place in many hearts.

She leaves to cherish her memories a loving family; a sister, Rose Mitchell of White Plains, N.Y.; two sisters-in-law, Celia Wall of Lilesville and Ollie Sanders of Raleigh; six daughters, Sallie Gaddy, Hannah Spencer, Catherleen Smith, all of Lilesville, Nellie Horton of Wadesboro and Rosa Hilliard and Virginia Gatewood, both of White Plains, N.Y.; three sons, Lonnie (Carolyn) Spencer of Lilesville, James (Geanette) Spencer of Roanoke Rapids and Thomas Spencer of Palm Coast, Fla.; 25 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
