For the second time within a week, a teenager was killed in a car accident in Anson County, as a result of not wearing a seat belt.

On Sunday, a 15-year-old, two children and an adult male were killed in a head-on collision near Ansonville. None of the children killed were wearing seat belts.

The latest fatal accident occurred on Tuesday at 3:44 p.m. about 10 miles south of Peachland, on White Store-Pageland Road. At about 3:44 p.m., Cedric Douglas Chambers, 16, of Peachland was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the road, Chambers overcorrected, traveled left of center and the vehicle then struck a ditch, overturning twice.

The right front passenger, Donnell Lotharp, 18, of Marshville was ejected from the vehicle and killed at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, said 1st Sgt. M.R. Leach with the N.C. Highway Patrol. Chambers refused medical treatment while another passenger, a 13-year-old from Marshville, was treated and released at Anson Community Hospital’s emergency room.

Chambers was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, a child restraint violation for the 13-year-old passenger and simple possession of marijuana, Leach said.
