Emma Anne Schuman and Robert Zachary Wallace were united in marriage on March 31, 2012, at the Crest Center in Asheville. The Rev. Grady Love performed the double-ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mark and Mary Schuman of Marion. She is the granddaughter of Juanita Lonon and the late Jack Lonon of Marion, and Rev. L.M. Schuman of Charlotte and the late Anne Carter Schuman.

Emma is a 2011 graduate of Wingate University and is employed as assistant to the athletic director at Wingate University.

The groom is the son of Melanie and Doug Godwin of Polkton, and the late Kris Wallace. He is the grandson of Robert and Patsy Thomas, Becky Wallace and the late Robert Brooks Wallace, and Doris Godwin and the late Glenn Godwin.

Zachary is employed by Anson Early College and will start Charlotte School of Law in the fall.

Her father gave the bride in marriage. She wore a white floor-length Essence of Australia gown. The gown was an elegant fit line tulle and crushed taffeta with Swarvovski crystals appliqués and scalloped lace edging. Her ribbon edged veil fell from the bride’s hair. She carried a round bouquet of green hydrangea, green buttons, and white roses wrapped in green and white ribbon with pearl pins and a Celtic broche.

Katherine S. Dowdle served as matron of honor and Abigail Schuman was maid of honor, both sisters of the bride. Both wore strapless cocktail gowns of spring green with sweetheart necklines highlighted by layers of ruffles. They carried round bouquets identical to the bride’s. Bridesmaids were Megan Wood, college roommate, of Danville, Va., Rebecca Bloemer of Louisville, Ky., Mary Anne Jones of China Grove, and Emma Harnett of Middleboro, Mass. All are friends and sorority sisters of the bride. They all wore gowns matching the maids of honor.

Keegan and Kohen Lee, both of Weddington, served as flower girls. They wore floor-length gowns with pale pink flower appliquéd. They carried white wicker baskets filled with white rose petals.

Adam Pence of Hilton Head, S.C., severed as his college roommate’s best man. Groomsmen included Doug Godwin, stepfather of the groom, Robert Straube of Philadelphia, Pa., Bradley Lewis of Greensboro, and Robert Rose of Gibsonville.

Ragan Riddle and Allison Wray, sorority sisters of the bride, kept the guest register. Sandra Queen, friend of the bride, directed the wedding. Alyssa Kanipe, friend of the bride, served as wedding day hostess.

A picturesque open view of the mountains was the backdrop as the couple exchanged vows between two bronzed candelabras with a mixture of hydrangea, roses and draping greenery. Musicians Barte and Colby Laney and flutist Rosie Bradley, aunt of the bride, provided traditional wedding music before ceremony. Barte Laney played “This is My Father’s World” on the fiddle as the bride entered the ceremony. Vocalist Carol Wilson sang “In Christ Alone” accompanied by all the musicians.

The bride’s parents hosted an evening reception at Crest Center’s Pavilion. The outside terrace gave guests a lovely view of an Asheville sunset.

The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Asheville’s 12 Bones restaurant on the eve of the wedding. Other wedding functions held in honor of the couple included: an engagement luncheon hosted by Rebecca Wallace, grandmother of the groom, and Kim and Gil Gilmore, aunt and uncle of the groom, at Sullivan’s of Wadesboro; household showers given by the ladies of Story Memorial Church of Marion, and Rocky Mount Baptist Church of Polkton, hosted by Pasty Thomas, grandmother of the groom, Tonia Lambert, Glenda and Anna Hammonds, Johnnie Edwards and April Taylor, all relatives of the groom.

Other events included a cookout and stock the pantry shower, hosted by Rosie Bradley and Juanita Lonon, aunt and grandmother of the bride; and a lingerie shower hosted by Katherine Dowdle and Abigail Schuman, sisters of the bride. A bridesmaids’ brunch was given at the home of Margaret McFadden, and hosted by McFadden, Susan Condrey, Angie Collier, Barbara Fensterer and Rhonda McFadden.

Following a honeymoon to the Island of Antigua, the couple now resides in Wingate.
