Elizabeth “Betty” Peters Swanson, 86, died Jan. 29, 2009 at Anson Community Hospital.

Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Sunday in Anson Memorial Park with the Rev. Robert W. Rollins, Jr. officiating. The family greeted friends following the service and other times at the home of her daughter, Betsy, 103 Charlestown Place, Wadesboro, NC.

Swanson was born in Somerset County, N.J. on March 28, 1922, to the late Elizabeth Koestor and Arthur Peters. She was a resident of Chatham, N.J. prior to moving to Wadesboro in 1985.

Swanson held tremendous interest in flower gardening and took pride in a seasonal array of blooms, colors and fragrances emanating from her own backyard. Golfing, basket weaving and sharing time with family and friends were among her favorite “other” interests.

Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth “Betsy” Watts of Wadesboro and Margaret (Michael) Feehley of Easton, Md.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Swanson was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters and most recently, her husband of 61 years, Marty Swanson, who died Jan. 10, 2009.
