Some information on Anson’s time capsule

I have just read in your June 20 edition about the discovery of the time capsule at the base of the Confederate soldier [statue]. You are correct in saying it was put there for the county’s Bicentennial Celebration in 1949 and is to be opened in 2049.

My father, Fulton Allen Huntley, was chairman of the bicentennial. I vaguely remember the bicentennial and remember Daddy telling me and my sisters about the time capsule and for us to tell our children and grandchildren about it.

I have a copy here at my home of the souvenir program. It is very interesting to read about the history of Anson County to that date.

Thank you for sharing this information with your readers.
